Research shows 94% of patients received natural relief for neck pain when chiropractors combine cervical and thoracic spinal adjustments in their treatment.

Natural relief for neck pain should include upper thoracic adjustments

At Long Island University researchers investigated 64 patients with neck pain.  One group was the control group and received a cervical non thrust manipulation.  The experimental group received the cervical non thrust manipulation plus a thoracic thrust manipulation.  Both groups were given instruction on home exercise.  Outcome assessments were taken before treatment started and again after 2 treatment sessions in one week.  The research shows patients that received adjustments to both the cervical and thoracic spine had substantial improvement in natural relief for neck pain.  94% of the patients receiving both adjustments had short term natural relief for neck pain compared to just 35% of those just receiving the neck adjustment.  This suggests adjustments to both the cervical and thoracic spine is superior to just the neck adjustment alone.  To read the details of the research click here.

Chiropractors analyze, detect and correct the cause of dysfunction that results in pain.  Patients with neck pain can have dysfunction not only in the cervical spine but very likely in the thoracic spine too.  It is very important that the chiropractor checks all areas of the spine.  The transition area of the cervical to thoracic spine leads to many musculoskeletal problems.  Natural relief for neck pain is highly successful when using chiropractic adjustments to this area.
