I am sure you have heard of dental hygiene: you go to the dentist once or twice a year, brushing your teeth daily, flossing and rinsing. All of this to care for your teeth, to maintain and prevent problems. But what about the rest of your body? Your teeth are really the only thing that can be replaced yet you do more to care for them than anything else. Your spine protects the most important system of your body: your nervous system which controls every organ and function. You are born with one spine that cannot be replaced, so it’s important to practice sound spinal hygiene stretching.
It’s so important to take an active approach to your health. Unfortunately most people are becoming more sedentary, just sitting around on the couch and eating highly processed foods.
It’s time to get up off the couch and stretch!
I hope you are doing the stretching I have discussed in previous blogs and show on my youtube channel. The stretches are not only to help you get better but to help maintain and prevent future problems. It’s like dental hygiene, you don’t stop brushing your teeth and flossing if your teeth feel ok.. you keep doing it for maintenance. Spinal hygiene is one of the most important things to not only keep you feeling well but helps improve your overall health and remember.. your teeth can always be replaced, your spine CANNOT!
Even at the worst times like now with the Coronavirus when you can’t leave your house, there are always home workouts to follow. Many can be found on youtube or there are programs like P90X, Insanity and a list of others. It’s important to stay active and move. It’s more important than ever to keep moving because just sitting around and eating processed foods will compromise your immune system.
I put together another FB live and for those that didn’t see it I want to share the video of a full body spinal hygiene stretching routine to help you get up, loosen tension and stress and get the blood pumping. Take time to watch and actually do them! Once a day is so important:
Get up off the couch and take the time to do these stretches every day! Even better get your family up and do them together. Make spinal hygiene a daily family routine to become a lifestyle habit.
When this is all done and our daily lives are back to normal, it’s important to take this as a wake up call that we have to make our health and bodies a priority. There are so many things we can do to strengthen our immune systems and overall health to give us an advantage.
