Local chiropractor, Dr. Russell Brokstein, joins the collective efforts of many national organizations and health care providers in educating the public and providing awareness during correct posture month.
There are many negative health consequences of poor posture and with modern technology we are seeing an increase
in postural related symptoms. The Arthritis Foundation states 50 to 80% of Americans experience back pain during their lifetime. Neck pain, back pain, headaches, numbness and tingling are some of the many symptoms that can be experienced due to bad posture.
Many look at technology as making life easier, but slouching at a desk and computer, staring at cell phones to text and play games and sitting extended periods is contributing to increased poor postures leading to more pain.
Dr. Brokstein states, “Posture is the window to the spine. If your spine is misaligned it puts unnecessary stress and pressure on the nerves, muscles, tendons and ligaments. This leads not only to pain, but also effects the functions of all the organs. There are many studies that confirm posture has a significant impact on your appearance, attitude AND health. Just like if you don’t take care of your teeth, your spine will decay. It’s important we take a more active approach to improve posture.”
During National Correct Posture Month, Dr. Brokstein is educating his patients and local community on the effects of posture, how to improve posture through chiropractic, exercise and stretching. We are making the public more aware that improving posture will reduce your pain, improve your health, wellness and healthy aging.
